Executives receive national recognition as African American Leaders

EL PASO, Texas — The Hospitals of Providence is thrilled to announce that two of its hospital executive leaders have been nationally recognized as African American leaders in the healthcare industry.  Stephanie Talley and Sereka Barlow were named to the Becker’s Hospital Review 2019 list of “African American Leaders in Healthcare”.

As Becker’s notes, “This list highlights African Americans who have taken on leadership roles across the country at hospitals and health systems as well as in national organizations. Both established and emerging leaders are featured on this list.”

Stephanie Talley serves as Texas Group Chief Human Resources Officer for Tenet Healthcare and Market Chief Human Resources Officer for The Hospitals of Providence.  Talley is a progressive leader with over 25 years of healthcare experience and is responsible for overseeing human resources functions for the networks four hospitals in El Paso and 13 hospitals in Texas.  She has been integral in creating collaborative partnerships to implement best practices and ensure alignment of all Texas facilities within corporate HR initiatives.  Talley has been instrumental in creating a culture of positive employee engagement and has increased engagement year over year, as well as successfully improved employee retention for the group.        

sereka barlowSereka Barlow serves as Chief Operating Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus.  Barlow has over 21 years of healthcare experience and is responsible for the daily operations of the 297-bed hospital.  She has been instrumental in several recent achievements, to include being one of only ten hospitals in the nation to achieve the prestigious HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence, earning Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Center and receiving a grade “A” by Leapfrog Group for patient safety.

Both Talley and Barlow are passionate leaders with diverse backgrounds, determined to make a difference in healthcare and in the community. Becker’s Hospital Review selected 68 leaders to its list of African American leaders in healthcare. They were selected to the list for their success in influencing how their organizations approach healthcare delivery, develop healthcare policy and advocate for the next generation of leaders.
