Providence Children’s Hospital Receives Level IV NICU Designation – The only Level IV NICU in El Paso

Aug 21, 2017
The Hospitals of Providence is proud to announce that the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Providence Children’s Hospital located on the Memorial Campus has received the highest designation level of care – Level IV - by the Texas Department of State Health Services for its ability to care for babies who are born prematurely or who are critically ill. The NICU at Providence Children’s Hospital is the ONLY Level IV NICU in El Paso.

The designation comes after a rigorous site visit by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ NICU Verification Program that ensures the units have resources and expertise to provide the highest level of care for the youngest of patients. The Hospitals of Providence is very proud of the nursing staff, ancillary staff, and physicians who provide care to the patients they serve.

The Level IV designation means the hospital’s NICU can care for infants born earlier than 32-weeks gestation and weighing less than 3.3 pounds by providing life support, respiratory support and advanced imaging such as MRIs and echocardiography, according to the levels of care descriptions under the Texas Administrative Code.
