The Hospitals of Providence East Campus Begins Construction on $20 Million Investment Project

Aug 24, 2021

EL PASO, TX –   The Hospitals of Providence East Campus has begun construction on a $20 million dollar investment project to expand needed services in growing East El Paso.  A celebration was held at the East Campus to formally kick-off construction. The Hospitals of Providence East Campus is part of The Hospitals of Providence – El Paso’s largest healthcare network.

This new project – which will take nine months to complete – will significantly expand capacity in several areas of the East Campus hospital.  This expansion includes:

  • An additional 30-bed Telemetry unit
  • A third Catheterization Lab equipped with biplane technology
  • An additional 6-beds to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Additional triage services within for Obstetrics Emergency Services
  • An additional operating room within Women’s Services to expand obstetric care

This expansion of services will also allow East Campus to improve care for stroke patients, strengthen care for women and children, expand surgical services, and enhance trauma services for the East El Paso community.

“This is a really exciting time for our hospital – being a part of a project of this magnitude that is ultimately going to save lives - is why we are here and why we do what we do,” said Tasha Hopper, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus.  “As a native El Pasoan who raised my family in East El Paso, it makes me proud to make this investment in the community I love. We look forward to growing with East El Paso and being here to ensure the health and well-being of our neighbors, friends and families.”

The Hospitals of Providence East Campus continues to expand needed healthcare services to care for the growing area.  As part of this recent investment, the network will expand surgical services by adding additional surgical robots within operating rooms.  Earlier this year, the hospital announced its newest addition the Weight Loss Center East providing bariatric services offering both surgical and non-surgical weight-loss options.  In 2015, the hospital underwent a $68 million dollar project to construct the second tower adding an additional 60 beds to the facility.

“Since East Campus opened in 2008, the area has seen vast expansion and growth and The Hospitals of Providence has been committed to ensuring our East El Paso community has the care they need close to home,” said Nicholas Tejeda, Group Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence.  “El Paso is our home and as our community continues to grow, we will continue to grow with it.”
