Hospitals of Providence Announces Executive Leadership Promotions

Sally Hurt-Deitch named Tenet VP of Patient Care Services and CNO & Nicholas Tejeda named The Hospitals of Providence Market CEO

El Paso, Texas — The Hospitals of Providence announces key leadership promotions in their continuing efforts to drive healthcare system improvements and to provide the best patient experience system-wide.

Sally Hurt-Deitch, Group CEO for The Hospitals of Providence (El Paso) & Valley Baptist Health System (Rio Grande Valley), has been named Tenet’s Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.  Sally, a native El Pasoan, began her healthcare career in nursing and is an enthusiastic champion of high quality care for patients.  While driving significant expansion activities at The Hospitals of Providence over the last 11 years in CEO roles, Sally also maintained the organization’s focus on delivering the highest standards of care to every patient – having earned Leapfrog Hospital “A” Safety Score for five consecutive years at the THOP East Campus and being a three time Circle of Excellence award winner.  She has been recognized with many awards, including being named one of healthcare’s 10 women leaders to watch by Modern Healthcare, a recipient of the Corris Boyd Leadership Award by the American Federation of Hospitals, and a Distinguished Alumni by the University of Texas at El Paso - its first recipient of that honor from the College of Nursing.  Sally also serves as president of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, serves as a member of the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas - El Paso Branch, and serves as the chair-elect of the Texas Hospital Association.  As VP for Patient Care Services and CNO, Sally will lead, in collaboration with Dr. Octavio Diaz, Chief Medical Officer for Tenet, critical areas including quality, safety, and patient experience across all Tenet hospitals. Sally brings both clinical and administrative experience to this role having begun her healthcare in nursing and ultimately promoted to Group CEO overseeing seven hospitals with over 7,000 employees across three Texas markets.                                                                                              

Nicholas “Nico” Tejeda, CEO for The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus & Sierra Campus, has been named Market CEO for The Hospitals of Providence.  Nico brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with a strong focus on the patient experience and delivering high-quality care to every patient who enters our doors.  As Market CEO, Nico will continue to expand healthcare services and quality of care for the El Paso region. Since joining THOP in 2015, Nico has led multiple initiatives to expand care, such as an affiliation with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. He also has been recognized with a number of Tenet and industry awards.  Nico will lead the market in collaboration with Monica Vargas-Mahar, El Paso Market Chief Operating Officer and CEO at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus.  Their combined experiences and dedication to the community will continue to move healthcare forward in El Paso.
