The Hospitals of Providence East Campus Achieves Level III Trauma Center Designation

El Paso, TX –The Hospitals of Providence East Campus is proud to announce that it has been designated as an Advanced Level III Trauma Center by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This designation was awarded after East Campus showcased its commitment to accept a higher acuity of trauma patient, properly intervene and implement care.
“We are excited to have achieved this honor,” said Dr. Alex Olsen, MD, Trauma Medical Director for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus. “This has been a multi-year journey and a true collaboration among physicians and staff, as well as our dedicated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers to achieve this accomplishment.”
A Major Level III Trauma Center brings together a number of resources that benefit trauma patients, including 24/7 immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians and the prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists. Level III Trauma Centers can provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, emergency operations, and stabilization and also arrange for transfer to a facility that can provide definitive trauma care when needed.
“We are proud to be advancing the care we provide our patients in East El Paso,” said Monica Vargas-Mahar, CEO for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus. “Our goal is to provide our patients the high-quality care they deserve close to home. This designation is a true reflection of the dedication that each team member shows every day to provide our patients and their families with the best care.”
In addition to this achievement, East Campus was recently recognized with a grade “A” for patient safety by Leapfrog Group, for the 13th consecutive scoring period. The network also announced the expansion of ER services with The Hospitals of Providence Emergency Room Edgemere.
“Trauma programs such as these have shown to decrease lengths of stay, reduce complications and provide better patient outcomes,” said Olsen.
The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus is also under active pursuit of Level III Trauma designation.
