The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus is 1 of only 10 Hospitals in Nation to Earn ACC HeartCARE Center Designation

EL PASO, Texas — The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus has earned the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence. This is the highest cardiology designation possible by the American College of Cardiology (ACC). This makes Sierra Campus one of 10 hospitals in the U.S., and first in the region, to receive this designation.

THOP Sierra HeartCARE designationHospitals receiving the HeartCARE Center designation from the ACC have demonstrated their commitment to consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence, and community engagement.

“This is an incredible achievement for our Sierra Campus and for The Hospitals of Providence. It reflects our collective determination and promise to provide El Paso with the highest caliber of cardiac care,” said Rob Anderson, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus. “I commend our amazing staff of nurses, physicians and healthcare providers for their dedication to cardiovascular patients who could be our family, friends or loved ones. It isn’t an accident that the Sierra Campus is only one of 10 hospitals in the nation to earn this designation – the entire team set their sights on a goal and worked determinedly for years to get better – one day at a time.”

As part of the criteria for HeartCARE, Sierra Campus previously achieved Chest Pain Center Accreditation, Cardiac Catheterization Lab Accreditation and Heart Failure Accreditation.

The cardiovascular epicenter for The Hospitals of Providence, the Sierra Campus recently performed the very first Watchman case in El Paso, a procedure for patients with atrial fibrillation, in which a small device is implanted into the aortic valve to reduce the risk of stroke for patients unable to tolerate blood thinners. With its commitment to expand cardiology services, the hospital also announced early this year that it was selected as a trial site for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a less invasive alternative for aortic valve repair.

“We are committed to our community and excited to continue to expand cardiology services so our residents can seek the care they need here in El Paso,” said Anderson.

In addition to this recent achievement, Sierra Campus was also recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and received accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities (CARF) early this year.

In February The Hospitals of Providence will celebrate Heart Month with free educational seminars held throughout the month to educate the community on keeping a healthy heart.
