The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus recognized as a Robotic Surgery Epicenter of Excellence
Apr 14, 2021EL PASO, TX – The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus has been designated as a Robotic Surgery Epicenter of Excellence specializing in Urogynecology (URO/GYN) by Intuitive Surgical, the only hospital in Tenet Healthcare to earn this designation.
Hospitals receiving this recognition have demonstrated best practices and patient outcomes in a specific specialty of robotic surgeries by both the hospital and physician. In addition to performing a large number of successful robotic surgeries specializing in hysterectomy, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse and other urogynecological conditions, Dr. Richard Farnam, Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, led this effort by implementing da Vinici Surgical System training, education, and other best practices in conjunction with the hospital surgical team. This program allows the facility to serve as a training site for Dr. Farnam to mentor and assist in the advanced education of other URO/GYN doctors from around the world seeking to learn robotic surgery.
“This designation is a true testament to the level of care we provide our patients,” said Dr. Richard Farnam. “It’s important that women know they have options available and that through robotic surgery we can reduce their time in the hospital, as well as their recovery time.”
The many benefits of robotic surgery include more precise incisions, significantly less pain, less risk of infection and blood loss, better clinical outcomes and shorter stays in the hospital.
Epicenters are recognized for their first-class trained robotics team and their state-of-the-art technology.
“We are extraordinarily proud of Dr. Farnam and the entire team for their steadfast commitment to achieve this designation, so we can provide our community specialized urogynecological care and to train other physicians from around the world so they are able to provide this same care,” said Tasha Hopper, Chief Executive Officer of The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus. “As a teaching hospital, our team is committed to training the next generation of healthcare providers and ensuring our patients have access to high-quality care close to home.”
