“Receiving a cancer diagnosis is an incredibly stressful and scary time for any patient and their loved ones. Our goal is to help reduce some of that burden by connecting patients with the needed specialists, resources, and services as conveniently as possible,” said Charlie Swopes, Cancer Navigator for The Hospitals of Providence. “It starts with one-call, that allows patients and families to find the needed resources and services to best suit their needs – and we stay with you every step of the way.”

The new navigation program was born out of a community need, working to make the cancer journey a less stressful experience for patients and their loved ones. Whether you are at the beginning of your cancer diagnosis or already in treatment, the one-call navigation program serves as a resource to answer questions or connect patients with the care they need and deserve.

“Our team is committed to improving access and expanding cancer services for our community to ensure cancer patients receive earlier intervention to the care they need,” said Rob J. Anderson, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus. “In collaboration with the entire physician community, we are making remarkable strides on the cancer front and this navigation program is one more step we are taking to advance our care and focus on patients’ needs.”

The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus is proudly accredited as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer, demonstrating its dedication and technical capabilities to improve the survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, which promotes cancer prevention, clinical research, education, and monitoring of comprehensive quality care. As part of its commitment to cancer care, the Memorial Campus has implemented the General Cancer Tumor Board, along with two specialized tumor boards, the Breast Cancer Tumor Board and the Liver Tumor Board, the only boards of their kind in El Paso. These community-wide tumor boards bring together a comprehensive group of cancer specialists who meet to discuss treatment options for individual cancer patients.
