Two Hospitals of Providence CEOs receive national recognition as women leaders

Monica Vargas-Mahar and Tasha Hopper make Becker’s Hospital Review list

EL PASO, Texas — The Hospitals of Providence is thrilled to announce that two of its hospital CEOs have been nationally recognized as women leaders in the healthcare industry.

Monica Vargas-Mahar and Tasha Hopper were named to the Becker’s Hospital Review 2018 list of “Women Hospital and Healthcare Leaders to Know”.

As Becker’s notes, “These women are hospital and health system executives for institutions across the nation. These leaders face the challenges of running healthcare organizations head-on. Many wear multiple hats within their health system to promote organizational growth and drive innovation.”

Monica Vargas-MaharMonica Vargas-Mahar serves as the Market Chief Operating Officer for The Hospitals of Providence and the Chief Executive Officer for the East Campus. As Market COO, she oversees operations for the entire network in the El Paso area. As CEO of the East Campus, she successfully guided the hospital to achieve the advancement of its trauma designation to a Level 3 emergency room. Vargas-Mahar was also instrumental in helping both the Sierra Campus and East Campus receive a Grade “A” by Leapfrog for patient safety.

Tasha HopperTasha Hopper serves as Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus. Having begun her career as a Labor and Delivery nurse at the Memorial Campus, she has made a difference and inspired those around her as she’s persevered and served in several capacities to include Director of Nursing, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Administrator, Chief Operating Officer and now Chief Executive Officer of the Transmountain Campus. As the hospital’s first employee, Hopper oversaw the Transmountain Campus’ $120 million construction and has continued to oversee its development, operations and growth since opening its doors in January 2017.

Both Vargas-Mahar and Hopper are inspirational and compassionate leaders, determined to make a difference in healthcare and in the El Paso community. Becker’s Hospital Review selected 143 women to its list of hospital and health system leaders to know. They were selected to the list for their success in helping to achieve financial, operational and clinical goals; as well as, contributing to the culture of innovation and transformation valued by The Hospitals of Providence and its staff, patients and the community.
