Sally Hurt-Deitch

Market Chief Executive Officer, The Hospitals of Providence (THOP)

As Market CEO of The Hospitals of Providence (THOP), Sally helps the hospital system capture market opportunities for improved operational effectiveness and efficiency and ultimately drives further enhanced value for patients.  Sally also leads the development efforts for the Transmountain Campus that is a collaboration with Texas Tech University of Health Sciences (TTUHSC) El Paso. Prior to her role at THOP, Sally was the Chief Nursing Officer at Columbia Medical Center West, the CNO at Del Sol Medical Center, then later COO and Ethics Compliance Officer at the same facility.  In 2005, she was named CEO at Oklahoma University Medical Center Edmond.  She returned to El Paso in 2007 to accept the CEO position at Sierra Providence East Medical Center (now The Hospitals of Providence East Campus).    She led the building of El Paso’s newest acute care hospital which opened May 21, 2008.  In 2012 and 2013, Tenet Healthcare recognized the East Campus as one of the company’s Circle of Excellence Award winning hospitals.

In less than five years from opening, the East Campus has recently completed a $67 million dollar expansion project, has received Joint Commission accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center, a Texas Department of Health Level IV Trauma Center, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score “A,” and in 2014 was approved for a $10 million dollar expansion project to create a Freestanding Emergency Room in Horizon City, Texas. Sally is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in   Nursing, and a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.    In 2013, the University of Texas at El Paso recognized Sally as one of its Distinguished Alumni, its first recipient of that honor from the College of Nursing.

Monica C. Vargas-Mahar

Chief Executive Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Sierra ​Campus

Monica C. Vargas-Mahar serves as Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus. In this role, she provides strategic and operational leadership for the Sierra Campus and its numerous outpatient locations.

Vargas-Mahar has over 15 years of experience in the field of healthcare administration.   She most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for the Memorial Campus and Providence Children’s Hospital.  From 2008 to October 2011, Vargas-Mahar served as the Chief Operating Officer for the East Campus, The Hospitals of Providence’s newest acute care hospital.

Vargas-Mahar is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, California) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  She earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.

Phil Young

Chief Executive Officer, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Phil Young serves as Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence (THOP) East Campus.  Young comes to THOP from LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., where he served as CEO of Doctors’ Hospital of Opelousas in Opelousas, Louisiana; President of the Southern Tennessee Regional Health System; and most recently as CEO of Transitional Facilities. He also has experience with New American Healthcare, Health Management Associates and HCA.

 Young earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and a master’s degree from the University of Houston. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Nicholas Tejeda, FACHE

Chief Executive Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus

Nicholas Tejeda serves as the Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus. In this role, he provides strategic and operational leadership for the Transmountain Campus which will serve El Paso's rapidly growing West side community upon opening in January 2017. Tejeda joined The Hospitals of Providence team in July 2015 as CEO of the East Campus, after serving as CEO of Doctors Hospital of Manteca in Manteca, California.

Tejeda is the immediate past-president of the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives, the outgoing chair of the American College of Healthcare Executives' National Early Careerist Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Hospital Association's Institute for Diversity in Health Management.

Additionally, Tejeda holds a master's degree in health services administration from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, and a bachelor's degree in business management from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.

Rob J. Anderson

Chief Business Development Officer, The Hospitals of Providence (THOP)

Rob Anderson serves as Chief Business Development Officer for THOP.  Anderson joined Tenet in 2009 with over 15 years of healthcare and business development leadership.   He previously held the title of National Director of Physician Recruitment at the Tenet home office in Dallas, Texas, responsible for Tenet’s company-wide physician recruitment and manpower plan execution.  Anderson joined THOP in 2011 and is responsible for network-wide business strategy and service line development.  He also directs and manages physician recruitment, marketing and public relations for the network.  Anderson received his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas’ Jindal School of Management.

Gustavo Martell

Chief Medical Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain

Gustavo “Gus” Martell, MD, FACOG serves as The Hospitals Chief Medical Officer at the Transmountain Campus.

Dr. Martell has 22 years of clinical and progressive healthcare management experience.  He is a local El Pasoan and a University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) alumni.  Dr. Martell is Texas Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  In the past, he has served as Chairman of the OB/GYN Department at a local hospital, Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Chairman of Professional Review Committee and Secretary of Medical Executive Committee.

As Chief Medical Officer for Transmountain Campus, Dr. Martell oversees clinical operations and serves as a liaison between physicians and our administrative team.  Dr. Martell is also responsible for building the medical student and residency program to assure alignment with our goals and quality of care.

Dr. Martell holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.  He completed his OB/GYN Internship and Residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC) in El Paso, Texas.

Alma D. Terrazas

Market Compliance Officer, The Hospitals of Providence (THOP)

Alma Terrazas serves as the Market Compliance and Privacy Officer for THOP. Terrazas joined the Tenet team in 1998 and has served in various roles to include Administrative Director of Contracts Compliance Department and Hospital Compliance Officer.   She was instrumental in the implementation of the contract and legal compliance program which has been recognized as an audit services best   practice in the company.  Terrazas provides monitoring of compliance requirements and audits internal controls and policies and procedures to include Federal, State and Regulatory requirements.  She received her Master of Business Administration Degree in Healthcare Management from University of Phoenix in Santa Teresa, NM.

Stephanie Talley

Chief Human Resources Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus and Sierra Campus 

Stephanie Talley serves as the Market Chief Human Resources Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus and Sierra Campus.  Talley is in charge of strategic and operational leadership for all human resources functions.  She has served in several fast paced environments and turnaround situations within Tenet.  Prior to joining The Hospitals of Providence, Talley served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, Texas.  She is a graduate of Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, N.C.

Sandra Balboa

Chief Human Resources Officer, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Sandra Balboa joined Tenet in 2008, and contributes over 20 years of Human Resources experience. Prior to healthcare, she specialized in helping fast-growing technology companies reach organizational maturity and execute international expansions or mergers.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Psychology from Connecticut State University.  She is also a proud U.S. Armed Forces Veteran.
 
Handley

Charles Handley

Chief Financial Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus and Providence Children’s Hospital

Charles Handley serves as the Chief Financial Officer at the Memorial Campus and Providence Children’s Hospital.  He has served as CFO for the last seven years and has been with Tenet Healthcare for over 21 years.  Previous positions include serving as the CFO for Park Plaza Hospital/Plaza Specialty Hospital in Houston and RHD Memorial Hospital in Dallas as well as serving as Controller for Trinity Medical Center and Accountant at Doctors Hospital in Dallas.  Handley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy and Information Systems from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin (Odessa, TX).
 
Gonzalez

Victoria Gonzalez

Chief Financial Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus

Victoria Gonzalez serves as Assistant Chief Financial Officer for THOP.  She began her career with THOP in 1995 as a Patient Relations/Customer Service Representative at the Sierra Campus.  She has worked as a Financial Analyst, Decision Support Manager, and as the Controller at the East Campus.  Gonzalez was named the Director of Business Development/Associate Administrator at the East Campus in   2013.  Realizing her passion was truly on the financial side of the business, Gonzalez recently moved back into finance, accepting the role of THOP’s Assistant Chief Financial Officer on September 1, 2014.

Victoria is currently working on her Master of Health Administration degree at Trinity University.

Jane Griffith

Chief Financial Officer, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Jane serves as the Chief Financial Officer at the East Campus and has over 25 years of financial leadership experience in healthcare. Most recently, Jane served as a Chief Financial Officer within the Providence Health System in Anchorage, Alaska, the third largest not-for-profit system in the United States. Specifically, she was responsible for Providence Alaska Medical Center, Providence Imaging Center and Providence Alaska Foundation in Anchorage, Alaska. In this capacity, Jane has been instrumental in developing multi-year capital plans, driving the implementation of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and significantly improving Net Operating Margins.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Byrd

David T. Byrd

Chief Financial Officer, The Hospitals of Providence ​Transmountain Campus

David Byrd serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the Sierra Campus.  Byrd rejoined The Hospitals of Providence (THOP) in April of 2014 from another Tenet facility in St. Louis, Des Peres Hospital, where he was also the CFO.  Byrd previously served as the Assistant CFO at the Sierra Campus prior to his promotion to CFO at Des Peres.  He has been with Tenet for eight years and has over 20 years of cumulative experience. Byrd oversees the financial viability of the hospital by monitoring and establishing financial plans and budgets.  He is responsible for finance, admitting, revenue analysis, case management, materials management, and chart audit.  Byrd received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
 
Roddex Barlow

Roddex Barlow

Chief Operating Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus 

Roddex “Rodd” Barlow serves as the Chief Operations Officer for Memorial Campus. Rodd joins our team with over 20 years of operational and nursing experience in the United States Army. Most recently, Rodd served as the Chief of the Department of Nursing at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. While serving in the U.S. Army, Rodd served as Deputy Chief of Staff at Brooke Army Medical Center, Senior Methods Analyst, Base Realign and Closure Integration Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Soldier Family Care Center, Deputy Chief, Resource Management/Nurse Method Analyst. Rodd also served as Clinical Staff nurse in the Emergency Department at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Darnall Army Community Hospital, as well as a Clinical Staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, 21st Combat Support Hospital in Eagle Base, Bosnia. In his new role at Memorial Campus, Rodd will administer the Pharmacy, Laboratory, Environmental Services, and Dietary and Nutrition Services.

Rodd holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University and a Master of Business Administration and Master of Healthcare Administration from Baylor University.

Chacko

Benson Chacko

Chief Operating Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus 

Benson Chacko joined the Sierra Campus team in October 2014 with 14 years of healthcare experience in operations, process improvement and business development.  Most recently, he worked as the COO for Des Peres Hospital, a 143 bed Tenet hospital in St. Louis, MO.  There he led various cost reductions initiatives and a multi-disciplinary team charged with improving the patient experience.  Prior to that role he was the Associate Administrator/Director of Business Development the East Campus.  Chacko received his Bachelor of Healthcare Administration Degree from Texas State University and holds a Master of Healthcare Administration Degree from Texas Woman’s University.

Brandon L. May

Chief Operating Officer, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Brandon L. May serves as the Chief Operating Officer at the East Campus. Prior to his appointment at the East Campus, May served as the Chief Financial Officer for Westlake Hospital, a 225-bed acute care hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois. 

He began his career as a Controller for St. Cloud Regional Medical Center, in St. Cloud, Florida and eventually moved to Bartow Regional Medical Center, Bartow, Florida where he held the roles of both Controller and Interim Chief Financial Officer in 2008. He went on to serve at the Chief Financial Officer and Hospital Compliance Officer at Bartow from 2008 to 2011.

Tasha Hopper

Chief Operating Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus

Tasha Hopper joined the team in May 1998.  She has previously served as the Interim Chief Operating Officer for the Memorial Campus. Prior to her current appointment, Hopper served as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at the Memorial Campus where her focus was on nursing operations.  Most recently, she has assisted in the GetWellNetwork implementation, achieving Pathway to Excellence designation for the Nursing Department, and the strategic roll out of the master plan for the hospital. Hopper earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from The University of Texas at El Paso.

Erik Cazares MSN, RN

Chief Nursing Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus

Erik Cazares serves as the Chief Nursing Officer at The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus. His tenure at The Hospitals of Providence began in 2001 when he joined Sierra Medical Center, now Sierra Campus as a Registered Nurse. In 2008, he transitioned into his first healthcare leadership position as part of then, Sierra Providence East Medical Center’s, now East Campus, start up and inaugural leadership team as the Director of the Telemetry department.

Throughout the years he had oversight and responsibilities over multiple inpatient hospital departments and led the strategic implementation of Oncology, Inpatient Hospice, and Total Joint service lines. In 2014, he promoted to Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and most recently returned to The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus as the Chief Nursing Officer.

He received his BSN degree from The University of Texas at El Paso and a Masters in Nursing Administration degree from Texas Tech University

 
Duran

Patricia Duran

Chief Nursing Officer, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Patricia Duran serves as Chief Nursing Officer at the East Campus.  Duran has over 30 years of leadership experience in acute care.  In 2006, she became the Assistant Vice President of Patient Care Services at the Memorial Campus and was named the first Chief Nursing Officer of SPEMC in September of 2007.

Duran represents the Central Region as a sitting CNO on Tenet’s Nurse Executive Council (NEC) and serves as the NEC member in the Tenet CNO Practice Council. She is dedicated to Patient Safety and a Professional Practice Environment.

Linda Lawson

Chief Nursing Officer, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus

Linda Lawson, DNP, RN, NEA-BC serves as Chief Nursing Officer at the Transmountain Campus. After returning to The Hospitals of Providence in 2013, Linda served as the Administrative Director for Health Care Transformation.

Linda brings over thirty years of operational and nursing experience. In those years of experience, Linda has served in various administrative positions including, Chief Nursing Officer, Administrative Director of Nursing Operations, Cardiovascular Services and Clinical Quality Outcomes.

Additionally, Linda is an Executive Nurse Fellow with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is an Examiner/Team Leader with the Quality Texas Foundation, a Pathway to Excellence Appraiser and a Magnet Appraiser. Linda has a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC), a Master of Science in Critical Care from University of Massachusetts, and also a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at El Paso.

Megan Powe serves as the Director of Business Development, Operations for Sierra Campus.  She joined the The Hospitals of Providence team in 2016 after completing an administrative residency at East Cooper Medical Center, a 140 bed Tenet facility in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Prior to her residency, Megan coordinated and implemented financial applications for hospital and medical practice electronic health records.

Megan holds a Master of Health Care Administration Degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama.
Worley

Nathan Worley

​Director of Business Development, Operations (DBD), The Hospitals of Providence East Campus

Nathan Worley joined The Hospitals of Providence in January of 2014 as an Administrative Resident.  The primary role of an administrative residency is to learn and grow into a leadership role.  Beyond the educational objectives, Worley has been involved in business development projects and leading network growth in the Southern New Mexico and West Texas markets.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMurry University and will earn his Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in December, 2014.

Stephen Chandler

Director of Business Development, Operations & UME/GME, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus

Stephen joined the Transmountain Campus team after serving as Leadership Development Associate at East Campus.

As a Director of Business Development for the Transmountain Campus, Stephen plays an integral role in developing, implementing, and monitoring strategic initiatives. Stephen also oversees the various teaching programs at the facility in collaboration with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso.

Stephen obtained a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also earned a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
