EL PASO, TX – The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus held an anniversary celebration to commemorate its 70 years of caring and serving the El Paso community. As part of the celebration, the first baby born at the Memorial Campus on January 16, 1952, Linda Holguin, was in attendance, in addition to Saum Sutaria, CEO of Tenet Healthcare.

Since 1902, The Hospitals of Providence has proudly been caring for El Paso – originally known as Providence Hospital, located at 617 N. Santa Fe Street in Downtown El Paso, the hospital opened its doors as one of the first equipped hospitals in the region offering needed equipment and care. As decades passed and expansion was needed a plan was formed to relocate the hospital and in 1952, Providence Memorial Hospital opened its doors at 2001 N. Oregon to care for the El Paso community. In 2015, the hospital was later renamed The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus, part of The Hospitals of Providence network.

“Today is a celebration of the legacy of compassionate care at the Memorial Campus – for over a century we’ve been caring for generations of El Pasoans and we are incredibly proud to be deeply rooted in El Paso,” said Nicholas Tejeda, Group CEO for The Hospitals of Providence. “For 70, years the Memorial Campus has been a pillar for this community, providing access to high quality specialty care for our family, friends and loved ones.”

Memorial Campus’s legacy of caring for El Paso has extended to The Hospitals of Providence which has grown from a single hospital to the region’s largest healthcare network. The Hospitals of Providence now encompasses seven hospitals and over 50 access points throughout the region. In the last twenty years alone, $2 billion dollars has been invested in new facilities and state-of-the-art technology, enhanced services, and expanded access to offer El Pasoans high quality care close to home.

“Truly what sets our hospitals apart are the people within them – a team of dedicated nurses, physicians, and healthcare providers resolute in their commitment to care for all those entering our doors,” said Tejeda. “El Paso is our home and we are committed to ensuring our neighbors and families have the access to care they need close to home.”
