Providence Children’s Hospital Opens Brand New Level IV NICU Featuring Private Suites
The new Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Campus provides the highest designated level of care by a specialized multi-disciplinary team in the state of Texas. The unit prioritizes tranquility with new, quieter equipment for both infants and parents in private patient suites. A central monitoring system guarantees comprehensive oversight, while an emphasis on family involvement allows for active participation in baby care. Spacious accommodations, furnished with sleeping loungers, enable 24/7 bedside presence. Additionally, dedicated spaces such as a separate pumping room, parent bathrooms and showers, and a welcoming parent lounge, further support and accommodate families throughout their stay.
At The Hospitals of Providence, find assurance in our commitment to care for premature and critically ill infants. Providence Children’s Hospital proudly stands as El Paso's first hospital designated as a Level IV NICU by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), offering the highest level of care for these delicate newborns. Our NICU is equipped to address a spectrum of conditions—from prematurity and infections to respiratory distress and complex birth defects—and stands ready to perform necessary surgeries.
Our East Campus has achieved a Level III NICU designation, and currently, our Transmountain Campus operates as a Level I NICU, as it seeks Level II designation. Staffed with a dedicated team comprised of Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurses, and Respiratory Therapists, our NICUs ensure continuous care around the clock. Infants in need of NICU care are typically admitted within the first 24 hours after birth because they are born prematurely, show signs of a complication in the first few days of life, or have difficulty during their delivery.
With the support of our Neonatal Emergency Transport Team (NETT), we extend our assistance to infants born in other facilities, ensuring they receive necessary care. Comprised of skilled neonatal registered nurses and respiratory therapists, this specialized team is available 24/7 to transport critically ill newborns who require specialized services to our hospital.
