Oncology Social Worker - Cancer Navigaton

Mary Anne Galaviz, LMSW, serves as the Oncology Social Worker in the Cancer Navigation Program dedicated to supporting patients through their cancer journey. Her role involves providing psychosocial education, utilizing the distress thermometer and problem list, and offering supportive services. Mary Anne ensures patients receive comprehensive care by connecting them with vital resources locally and nationally.

Mary Anne holds a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She actively participates in the Oncology Association of Social Workers (AOSW), Power of Pink, and the Mountain Star Local Navigator Network. Additionally, she facilitates a Women’s Cancer Support Group with Rio Grande Cancer Foundation and participates in Active Living After Cancer (ALAC), that is in collaboration with MD Anderson.

Transitioning from a hospice social worker, Mary Anne was inspired by her experience helping patients with terminal cancer. She aims to provide the same level of support and advocacy to cancer patients, ensuring they have access to the best possible care.

Looking ahead, Mary Anne envisions a greater role for Social Workers in cancer navigation. She is committed to enhancing therapeutic resources and support for patients, driven by a collaborative approach with community and national resources.
