Lead Cancer Navigator
Nancy "Charlie" Swopes, MSN, RN, OCN, CBCN, CN-BN serves as the Lead Oncology Patient Navigator, where she spearheads oncology projects and programs, fostering development among oncology nurses. With a Master of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.
Charlie is nationally certified as an Oncology Nurse, Breast Cancer Nurse, Cancer Navigator, and Breast Care Nurse (the only one in the region). She is actively involved in the Oncology Nursing Society and the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN). Additionally, she participates in Active Living After Cancer, Power of Pink, and facilitates the Women's Cancer Support Group with the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation, where she also serves on the board.
"I discovered my passion for oncology during my last semester at UTEP while working on the oncology floor," shares Charlie. "I was particularly drawn to breast cancer patients, and I began specializing in this area in 2011."
Charlie's comprehensive educational background and professional training have equipped her to excel in her role, ensuring patients receive the best care and support. Looking ahead, she envisions cancer navigation becoming an integral part of patient care, improving outcomes by providing dedicated support throughout their journey. At The Hospitals of Providence, she leads the largest navigation team in the city and aims to expand the program, playing a crucial role in its growth and success.
