Cancer Navigator
Rosamaria Roman, RN, BSN, is the Lead Oncology Patient Navigator at Imaging Center West, specializing in breast cancer navigation. She guides patients from their initial screening mammogram through diagnostic mammograms and biopsies, ensuring they receive comprehensive support from the start of their journey. Her role also includes educating and helping patients understand their risk of developing cancer due to their genetic risk factors.
Rosamaria holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She has completed specialized training programs, including the Breast Health Navigator for Nurses by Judy Kneece through EduCare, the National Consortium of Breast Centers' Breast Patient Navigation Certification Programs, and a Certificate in Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment from the City of Hope.
In addition to her role as a cancer navigator, Rosamaria is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society. Her journey into cancer navigation began on a surgical floor, where she assisted Spanish-speaking patients by translating for an oncology nurse. Recognizing the need for a Spanish support group, she spearheaded its creation and has since grown into her role as a lead breast navigator.Rosamaria's primary expertise lies in breast cancer navigation, where she provides essential support to patients through the complexities of their diagnosis and treatment. She is passionate about patient contact and is dedicated to making a difference, whether by facilitating appointments or helping patients understand their treatment options.
Looking ahead, Rosamaria envisions the field of cancer navigation expanding to ensure patients have the necessary assistance through the intricate web of oncology. She remains committed to her role, eager to continue helping patients navigate their cancer journey and make informed decisions about their care.
