Advanced Surgical Technology

Our surgeons are armed with advanced equipment and tools, all with the goal of streamlining the surgical experience and improving outcomes. Some of our technologies include:

  • Stealth 8: We utilize the StealthStation S8 for spinal surgical navigation. To learn more about its capabilities, visit StealthStation S8 | Medtronic
  • Globus: We use a variety of Globus technologies, including their spinal implants, artificial discs and robotic instruments.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Options

In select spine trauma cases, our physicians offer minimally invasive treatment options. To learn more, please call our office at 915-577-7951.

Dedicated Post-Operative Care

We’re committed to accompanying patients throughout their entire surgical journey – from initial consultation to long-term recovery. Our neurosurgeons and physician assistant remain in close contact with each patient’s neurologist and primary care providers to monitor their recovery.

Our neurologists generally see patients referred by a primary care physician and are specially trained in the diagnosis and care of patients with:

Brain Conditions/Procedures:

Dementia refers to a group of diseases – including Alzheimer’s – that cause a person’s memory, reasoning, and/or language skills to decline, negatively impacting their quality of life.

Tumors are bundles of abnormal tissue with uncontrolled growth. These growing tissues can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). In either case, depending on the size and location of the tissue, brain tumors can affect someone’s mood, cognitive abilities or physical movement.

Concussions are brain injuries brought on by sudden bumps or blows to the head. The force of the blow can cause the brain to shake rapidly, leading to symptoms like headache, confusion, nausea/vomiting or memory loss. Any time someone experiences a harsh blow to the head, it’s a good idea to visit a doctor.

Headaches encompass any pain or discomfort felt in the head and face. Headaches can be debilitating, and it’s often difficult to track down the cause. If headaches are impacting your quality of life, it’s essential to contact an experienced neurologist for assistance.

Sometimes called a “brain attack,” a stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is cut off. Strokes can also happen when a blood vessel bursts in the brain. A stroke is extremely serious, so if you experience any symptoms like difficulty speaking or understanding language, or sudden numbness (especially on one side of the body), seek emergency medical care immediately.

Hydrocephalus occurs when there is a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, putting pressure on the brain and potentially leading to brain damage.

Spine Conditions/Procedures:

Degenerative disc disease is a common cause of back pain. In this disease, the spinal discs that normally cushion your back’s vertebrae deteriorate. This lack of cushioning in the spine leads to stiffness and pain.

A herniated disc occurs when one of your spinal discs tears, causing pain and putting pressure on nerves in your back. This added pressure can also lead to numbness or weakness. Compression fractures, meanwhile, occur

when vertebrae collapse, often due to osteoporosis or back trauma. This can also cause pain, as well as decreased height or a hunched posture.

Trauma of the spine refers to any damage to the spinal column or spinal cord. Most commonly, these injuries happen after a fall, accident or sports injury.

Spine revision surgery helps address any problems caused by past back surgeries. If a past spine surgery led to additional pain or stiffness, your neurosurgeon may recommend a revision procedure.

Nervous System Conditions/Procedures:

Dizziness and poor balance can be caused by a multitude of problems, ranging from dehydration or low blood sugar to a chronic neurological condition. If your primary care physician has been unable to determine the cause of your dizziness, they may refer you to a neurologist.

Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, is a chronic central nervous system disease. In MS, the body’s immune system attacks the protective covering around nerve fibers, diminishing your brain’s ability to communicate with the rest of your body via nerves.

Epilepsy is another chronic disease. There are many types of epilepsy, but all of them lead to recurrent seizures.

Parkinson’s is caused by nerve cell damage in the brain. This damage affects a person’s ability to control their movement, often leading to tremors or poor mobility. Additionally, people with Parkinson’s may struggle with mood changes, fatigue or difficulty remembering things.

The ulnar nerve is a major nerve in the arm. Damage or compression of the ulnar nerve can cause pain, tingling and weakness in the hands.

Peripheral nerves send signals from your brain to other body parts, allowing you to move and function. Peripheral nerve issues can cause pain, numbness or poor mobility.
